Common problems in cold roll forming of stainless steel


(1) Due to defects such as dirt, scratches, pits, pitting or heavy skin on the surface of the blank to be processed, during the cold forming process, these defects are amplified with the processing deformation of the blank, which directly leads to contamination of the product. , mold scratches, product cracking and other phenomena, greatly reducing the yield. Therefore, before the molding process, the surface condition of the blank should be carefully inspected to ensure that it is clean and clean without surface defects, and then processed and produced.
        (2) Due to the dirtiness of the forming mold and the working platform, the metal debris adhered to the surface is not removed in time, resulting in the surface of the workpiece being dirty, rusted, and pits and scratches on the surface after processing. In order to avoid this phenomenon, it is necessary to regularly grind the mold to ensure the smoothness of the working surface, while keeping the processing equipment and processing workshop clean.
        (3) Some molding processes cause sliding contact between the metals. Partial high pressure during the molding process may damage the passivation film protecting the stainless steel, and there is a possibility of cold welding the unprotected stainless steel surface to the tool surface. When the solder joint breaks in the next sliding, the tool and mold surface that has been contaminated with debris will cause severe scratches on the stainless steel surface. This requires ensuring the integrity of the molding equipment, and requires the operator to skillfully operate the process and operate with care to avoid slippage.
        (4) Stainless steel has high strength, and austenitic stainless steel also has obvious cold work hardening property. If the deformation amount is too large during cold forming, the workpiece will be broken, and even the mold and machine equipment will be seriously damaged. . Therefore, in the production process, the hardness of the workpiece should be tested and a reasonable amount of deformation should be maintained to meet the production efficiency requirements while ensuring product quality.
        (5) After the cold-worked stainless steel workpiece, the surface passivation film will be damaged, and the stamping oil, mold and other metal scraps will adhere to it, which will easily cause rust. In order to make the formed workpiece have good rust and smoothness, it must be cleaned, degreased and passivated, and a plastic film can be used to protect the surface of the workpiece.
